A Strong Foundation
He earned a BA in Political Science, with minors in Economics and Journalism at CSU, Northridge, while being the student body president his senior year. He went on to earn his master’s degree in Public Administration at the University of Southern California.
He then served as a staff consultant on the Assembly Committee on Education in Sacramento, and later as Director of Governmental and Alumni Affairs at CSU, Northridge.
In 1976 moved to the private sector before joining the staff of the City of Thousand Oaks, CA in 1998 as the city’s first manager of economic development. He served until 2011 when he left to help form the first Tourism Business Improvement District in Ventura County that was formed to develop and manage a robust marketing and advertising plan to attract visitors. Today Ventura County West serves the cities of Camarillo, Oxnard, Ventura and Port Hueneme and its collective of 63 hotels. It has been very successful in driving a marketing effort to increase hotel room occupancy.
